Midfielder ready to continue involvement for 2017/18 season
Konstantin Kerschbaumer spoke to iFollow Brentford about the 2016/17 season and personal highlight of the campaign. The 2015 summer signing from Admira Wacker ended the season on a high as Brentford reached tenth place in the Sky Bet Championship.
“We started quite good and then not a good period of time but the last ten to 15 games were nearly excellent I would say,” said Konstantin. “We performed well, especially at home and we’re looking forward to next season, because we finished well.”
The Austrian midfielder returned to the starting line-up in the back half of the season and Brentford ended their last ten league games with 17 points.
“I always enjoy playing,” said Konstantin. “I think every player wants to play. It was a tough season time for me in the first six months but then I started to play again and we were successful, then I am happy to be on the pitch.”
A highlight for Konstantin was his debut strike for Brentford in February after 18 months at the Club, a superb individual goal that had looked to given Brentford all three points over Brighton and Hove Albion before they levelled deep into added-on time.
“My first goal in English football was against Brighton and that was really special,” said Konstantin. “I scored in the 92nd minute and they got the equaliser in the 96th minute; that’s typical English Championship football.”
The 24-year-old’s finish came as the floodlights were on and he was quick to praise Brentford supporters for the excellent match atmosphere in West London under the lights, adding: “I say it all the time - Griffin Park at night games - our fans are always excellent and push us forwards so that was one big highlight of the season for me.”
