Jota's contract option exercised

Attacker to stay at Griffin Park for a further 12 months

7 May 2017

Brentford have exercised an option to extend the contract of Spanish attacker Jota for a further 12 months. The 25-year-old had one-year Club option in his contract and this has now been brought in to force. Jota – José Peleteiro Ramallo – will both now be under contract at Brentford until the end of the 2017/18 season.

Jota returned to Griffin Park in January from a loan spell at Spanish La Liga side Sociedad Deportivo Eibar. He joined Eibar on a temporary basis at the start of 2016 but was recalled a year in to the 18-month loan. Jota joined Brentford in August 2014 from Real Club Celta de Vigo for an undisclosed fee and was a regular in his first year at Griffin Park. He suffered an ankle injury at the start of the 2015/16 season and when he was back to full fitness he had to return to Spain, on loan, to deal with a personal issue. He signed a new contract at the start of the loan, giving Brentford the option to extend his deal until the summer of 2018, which has now been exercised.

Jota has played a key role in the second half of Brentford’s season. His form has earned him external recognition with a nomination for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award for February. He has scored 12 goals in 23 games in all competitions since returning, contributing a further eight assists. In total Jota has played 74 games for The Bees and scored 23 goals.
