Chatzitheodoridis out to 'show them how good I am'

Greek fullback talks about season and objectives for 2017/18 campaign

Greek defender Ilias Chatzitheodoridis gave his opinions on the 2016/17 season before leaving for a summer holiday recently. The 19-year-old, who was heading back to his home nation after a long season with the B Team, told iFollow Brentford about some of his favourite parts of the year as well as what to expect from the next campaign.

"I enjoyed it a lot," said Ilias. "I came here last year in August, I think I had a good season . Until now, I've been with the First Team a few times, training with them and being on the bench with them. I got the experience in the First Team so I am happy.

"With the B Team as well, this season we had very good games like yesterday's game [Manchester City]. I think we did very well in the first half, of course Manchester City had very good players as well. It was a good test for us.

"I think we did very well in the first half, in the second half towards the end we lost five players to cramps. It's usual because it was the end of the season, all of the boys were tired, I was one who had cramp as well. We lost it a little bit in the end and these teams can punish you straight away if you relax a little bit."

Ilias admitted that his highlight of the season had been the tours of Germany and Denmark in January. The Bees won the Kai Thor Cup in Odense after playing out a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich a week previously.

"I liked the trip in Germany. After Christmas, we played Bayern Munich and it was very nice and was a very good game as well. After that, going straight to Denmark and winning the tournament over there. I think that was a good moment for me."

Looking ahead to next year, the youngster was clearly happy to be a part of the team going forward.

"The B Team and the First Team are very good," said Ilias. "I'm very happy and I'm looking forward to next season and playing with them again, to have the same friendship we have now.

"Hopefully I can be with the First Team in pre-season, and show them how good I am to be with the First Team more than this season."
