Get to Know: Luke Daniels

The lowdown on our new summer signing

24 May 2017

Ten things you might not know as Luke becomes our second summer signing in 24 hours

  • Luke Matthew Daniels was born on 5 January 1988 in Bolton.
  • The six foot five stopper spent his youth career with Manchester United before joining West Bromwich Albion in 2004, aged 16.
  • International honours followed shortly after as Luke made his England Under-18s debut in a 2-1 win over Slovenia in April 2006. The goalkeeper also has two caps for the England Under-19s.
  • Sent on loan to Motherwell for the remainder of the 2007/08 season Luke’s professional debut came in a 2-1 home defeat to Celtic in March 2008.
  • Luke again went out on loan the following season, playing 42 games and impressing as Shrewsbury Town reached the League Two Play-Off final where they were beaten by Gillingham, the same season The Bees won the title under Andy Scott.
  • Another five loan spells, at Tranmere Rovers, Charlton Athletic, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, and Southend United followed, before Luke finally made his West Brom Premier League debut, nine years after joining the club, as a substitute in a 0-0 draw against Everton in August 2013.
  • Just two more EFL Cup appearances followed before Luke left West Brom permanently in January 2015 and joined League One side Scunthorpe United.
  • Luke played every minute after joining, helping The Iron to move away from the League One relegation places and into mid-table safety.
  • He has kept up that impressive start as no goalkeeper in League One has kept more clean sheets than Luke since the start of the 2015/16 season. The Iron’s number one kept 27 shutouts in 78 league games for the Glanford Park outfit before today’s move.
  • In total, Luke arrives at Griffin Park having made 216 professional appearances and kept 71 clean sheets.
