“There is nothing to scare us”

10 March 2017

Sergi Canos looks ahead to tomorrow’s home game against Huddersfield Town

Brentford winger Sergi Canos believes he and his teammates are every bit as good as tomorrow’s high-flying opponents Huddersfield Town as The Bees prepare to welcome David Wagner’s side to Griffin Park. The Terriers head to TW8 third in the table, just six points off the automatic promotion places, but Sergi insists there is nothing for Brentford to fear.

“We expect Huddersfield to be a very good side,” Sergi told Bees Player ahead of the match. “They are doing things very well and playing very good football but there is nothing to scare us. We know that they are a good side but we are also a good team. It is another game and we will look to get the three points. We are going to enjoy the atmosphere back at Griffin Park tomorrow and we are looking forward to the games coming next.”

The Bees are the Sky Bet Championship’s leading scorers in 2017 and have taken ten points from a possible 12 over the last couple of weeks. Sergi believes that the confidence gained from the recent run of results is helping the team to express themselves on the pitch.

“The team is full of confidence and we are showing it in the games and in training,” said Sergi. “The confidence is helping us to win but it is also helping us to believe in our style. It is a fun team to play in to be honest. We score a lot of goals and we create a lot of chances. I think it is also a fun team to watch for the supporters.”

Sergi rejoined The Bees from Norwich City on Transfer Deadline Day in January after his summer move to Carrow Road from Liverpool. The 20-year-old found his playing time severely limited under Alex Neil but feels he’s getting back to full fitness after playing 90 minutes, and contributing an assist, in Tuesday’s win over Nottingham Forest.

“I am getting close to 100 per cent,” Sergi revealed. “Tuesday was my first 90 minutes since Fulham last year at Griffin Park. I have had to be patient and understand that my body is not a machine. Hopefully soon I will be 100 per cent. Since I signed back here I have been looking to make an assist or score a goal. Hopefully the goal will come soon but I am happy with the assist as it gives me confidence and belief in myself. I made the run for the goal. When you do something at your best and it finishes with a goal like for Lasse Vibe on Tuesday it feels amazing.”

Tickets are still available for Saturday's match at Griffin Park with prices starting at £23 Adults, £17 Seniors, £15 Young Persons, and £6 Juniors. Click here for more info and to buy.
