Spanish winger hits first goals after his return to the Club
Two-goal hero Sergi Canós gave his thoughts on an incredible game of two halves at Burton Albion, where Brentford came back from two goals down to win 5-3. The 20-year-old scored Brentford’s first and third goals in the match, his first since his return to Griffin Park.
“We made two mistakes in two set pieces and that was difficult to take,” said Sergi. “Then after half time I think the subs and the players that were playing; it was just unbelievable.”
Sergi revealed his lack of goals had been a topic of conversation in the Canós household.
“There was a lot of talking with my family,” said Sergi. “[Saying] when am I going to score and I said to them ‘they will come, I just have to do everything right’ and finally they came today. The first one was a fantastic ball from Romaine and I just had to put my feet on the ball. It was a good goal. The second was the hardest goal I have score in my short life in football. Because it was all in slow motion. I scored with my left foot and didn’t know if it was going in.”
Winning before in the international break will be mean rest and recuperation before the next league game in two weeks’ time.
“The result will give us confidence and belief after the game against Wolves,” said Sergi. “I mean this group of players, we have a lot of quality. We play some good football and make some mistakes sometimes, but that’s football. Hopefully we can learn from that.”
Sergi is refusing to blame the fact that the team, the youngest in the Sky Bet Championship bar Barnsley, will have dips in performance due to their age.
“Hopefully there will be more ups than downs,” said Sergi. “We’re young but that’s no excuse. The performance from the second half; you can see we’re young, but we can play in this league and beat teams.”
