Midfielder lauds battling performance in Portman Road draw
Romaine Sawyers gave his post-match reaction to the 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town, with The Bees on top in most periods of the game, particularly in the second half. He commented that perhaps the side has added some steel to their style against an Ipswich Town side that would always be up for the fight.
“We created enough chances to maybe go and win the game,” said Romaine. “We had a lot of spells where we dominated the second half in difficult conditions; they are a physical team, the pitch wasn’t the greatest. We battled, we fought against them – if we battle like that in more games like that we’ll be all right. The gaffer keeps talking about performances and consistency and we’re starting to show that more and more.
“They were a different side to the two teams we’ve previously played,” said Romaine. “We keep getting tested but I think we’re passing them at the moment. We’ve got to get the battling side of it done and then we can play our game.”
It was a through ball by the 25-year-old that Nico Yennaris connected with to rifle home his fifth goal of the season a minute before the break. It was also his second goal in consecutive weeks, which led his midfield partner to praise his work in training.
“If you see Nico during the week Monday to Friday he’s working with Richard O’Kelly all the time to get that timing right and the last couple of games it’s starting to show,” said Romaine. “As long as he tries to get in these sort of positions we’ll try and find him. We’re getting goals from everywhere, which is a positive.”
