News, views, and more ahead of tonight's trip to The City Ground
Nottingham Forest vs Brentford
Tuesday 7 March
The City Ground
Sky Bet Championship
As turbulent off the pitch as it has been on it, Forest fans will be glad to see the back of the 2016/17 season, so long as they remain a Sky Bet Championship side. Forest currently sit six points above the drop zone after Saturday's impressive 3-0 victory over promotion chasing Brighton and Hove Albion. Only bottom side Rotherham United have secured a bigger proportion of their points at home than Forest, and it is that home form that has kept their heads above water this campaign. The Reds have the best home record outside the top nine and have won four of their last five at The City Ground.
Since The Bees' 1-0 win over Forest at Griffin Park in mid-August, Vladimir Stojkovic [Maccabi Haifa], Mustapha Carayol [Middlesborough], Gboly Ariyibi, [Chesterfield], and Zach Clough [Bolton Wanderers] have all arrived on permanent deals. The January Transfer Window also saw Joao Teixeira [Benfica], Aaron Tshibola and Ross McCormack [both Aston Villa] sign on loan. Niklas Bentner last night joined Rosenborg after a short spell at The City Ground, joining Oliver Burke [RB Leipzig], Dorus De Vries [Celtic], and Henri Lansbury [Aston Villa] as the big name departures this season.
Gary Brazil scored 160 goals in a 13 year playing career that took in Sheffield United, Port Vale, Preston North End, Newcastle United, Fulham, Cambridge United, Barnet, and finally, Slough. After retiring in 1998, Brazil joined Sam Allardyce as a coach and then Assistant Manager at Notts County. He stayed at Meadow Lane for four years, twice taking charge of the first-team, before leaving in 2002.
There then followed a spell as Youth Coach at Doncaster Rovers, before Brazil moved to The City Ground in 2012 as Youth Team Coach. He took temporary charge of Forest after the sacking of Billy Davies in May 2014 and then again this January after Philippe Montanier became the eighth managerial casualty in four-and-a-half seasons under Fawaz Al-Hasawi. After steadying the ship in his first four games, Brazil was, last month, handed the job on a permanent basis to the end of the season.
