Jan Holldack scored his third goal in seven games for SV Wuppertaler on Saturday but it wasn’t enough as Schalke 04 II ran out 4-2 winners at the Mondpalast-Arena. All the goals came in an end to end opening 35 minutes as Rogier Krohne took just three minutes to fire Schalke ahead. Jan levelled things up eight minutes later but Tjorben Uphoff and Krohne netted in the space of six minutes to make it 3-1. Ercan Aydogmus pulled another back for SVW but Sandro Plechaty completed the scoring with ten minutes to go in the half. Defeat sees SVW drop to seventh ahead of next Saturday’s home game against Jan’s former club, 1.FC Köln II.
Emmanuel Onariase and Cheltenham Town remain embroiled in the Sky Bet League Two relegation battle after three late goals consigned them to defeat at Barnet on Saturday. Danny Wright’s neat finish put The Robins in front on the quarter hour and it stayed that way until the final 20 minutes. However, Curtis Weston, Charlie Clough and John Akinde netted in an eight minute spell to ensure that the points stayed in North London. Results elsewhere mean that Town remain six points clear of the bottom two with seven games to play.
With the 2.Bundesliga on the international break it gave Andy Gogia the chance to get a week closer to full fitness after his ankle injury. The winger is back running after seven weeks out but it is unlikely he will be back in time for next Sunday’s trip to second-placed VfB Stuttgart.
