Ilias Chatzitheodoridis reacts to new deal at Griffin Park
Ilias Chatzitheodoridis was happy to put pen to paper on a new contract this morning. The Greek fullback's new deal will see him stay at Griffin Park until the summer of 2019, he spoke to Bees Player after signing on the dotted line.
"I'm very happy," said Ilias. "I'm excited to get started."
The 19-year-old has made 26 appearances for Kevin O'Connor's side this season, scoring once, since joining in the summer. He has enjoyed his time with the side so far.
"It was a different programme as well this year," he said. "All season are friendly games with some Premier League teams and that's been very helpful.
"I've enjoyed it a lot because I see the difference between English football and in Europe, like when we went to Spain. I think it was very important to see both the style of play as well as get a feel for these games."
Former Arsenal trainee Ilias was also part of the B Team squad that won the Kai Thor Cup in Denmark during January.
"It was a good experience out there," said Ilias. "We went out there as a team, won the trophy and it was a good tournament as well.
"This season I think I've improved. I work hard every day in training and this season we have played big games like Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. I think these games are important individually and playing 90 minutes is good."
Part of this year's new B Team plan sees players join Dean Smith's side for training throughout the season. Ilias enjoyed his time with the seniors but knows he will have to work hard to return in the future.
"It was very nice," he said. "It gives you the chance to see how it is working with the First Team, and to see what you need to improve to be with them. It also shows you how hard you need to work with the B Team to make the step up.
"I will keep working hard and keep showing them that I can be with the First Team. I'm just waiting for them to give me the chance to play and show them what I've got."
