Defeat for Women on Sunday at Lampton
Brentford Women's Development FC were beaten 4-1 by high-flying London Academicals in their penultimate Greater London Women's Football League Division Three South fixture on Sunday. After heavy pre-match rain it was a slick pitch at Lampton School and the visitors raced into an early lead. Barely 90 seconds had been played when the Academicals striker broke through and slotted past Emily Boycott. It was 2-0 shortly afterwards as a long-range effort carried on the wind and left Boycott with no chance.
The Bees rallied after conceding early but failed to unduly test the Academicals backline. At the other end they were indebted to Boycott for a string of fine saves which kept the score down. However, there was nothing she could do on the stroke of half-time as some neat interplay on half-way sprung the Academicals striker through to guide home.
The away side, who are three points off top with a game in hand, made it 4-0 after the break before Nadia Peters pulled one back for The Bees: Janae Pine's deflected effort falling kindly to Peters who made no mistake from close range.
The curtain comes down on the Development Team's league season next Sunday as they travel to Baldon Sports, who a point and a place above The Bees in the table. Brentford Women's FC also return to action next weekend with a home game against Luton Town Development at Lampton School.
