Chris Mepham made his international debut in the prestigious Toulon Tournament yesterday. The Brentford B defender played for Wales Under-20 in their 2-2 draw with Ivory Coast yesterday afternoon. The 19-year-old played the full match in the centre of defence in the draw. Wales went ahead through George Thomas but found themselves trailing to the African side at the game entered its final stages. But Thomas grabbed his second to ensure the spoils were shared.
Wales came in to the match unbeaten having drawn with France in their opening fixture before a win against Bahrain. The draw meant they finished second in their group, behind Ivory Coast. Only one second place team will go through to the semi-final stage and Wales will find out their fate today, Wednesday 6 June. England have already made the last four and have Brentford goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe in their ranks.
The international action continues for Brentford’s players today Denmark take on Germany in a full international friendly. Brentford’s three Danish internationals – Andreas Bjelland, Henrik Dalsgaard and Lasse Vibe – will be hoping to feature. As well as Ellery and England there could also be international action in the next few days for Lukas Talbro, for Denmark Under-18, and Romaine Sawyers, for St Kitts and Nevis.
