John Egan was not involved as Republic of Ireland took another small step towards the World Cup yesterday. The Brentford central defender was part of the Irish squad for their latest match – a qualifier against Austria in Dublin. John was not named in the match day squad for the match, which finished in a 1-1 draw.
Ireland fell behind late in the first half against the Austrians, also challenging for a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Jonathan Walters scored late in the second half to secure a draw for the Irish. Ireland sit second in Group D of the European section of World Cup qualifiers. They are level on points with group leaders Serbia, who drew with Wales last night. They are, however, four points clear of Austria and Wales with four games to go. Ireland face Serbia in September in a match that could go some way to deciding their fate with a trip to Wales also still to come.
Lukas Talbro was also not involved as Denmark Under-18 faced their counterparts from Greece yesterday. The Danes won the game 5-2 but Lukas did not play. The Brentford B defender did feature in the first of two friendlies between the teams last week, which Greece won 1-0. Lukas has two Denmark Under-18 caps and two at Under-16 level.
