Brentford winger Florian Jozefzoon says he is ready to go as he heads back to Jersey Road after the summer break and on the back of the option of extending his contract for a year being exercised by the Club.
The 26-year-old winger joined The Bees from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January and went on to make 19 appearances, six from the start, before the end of his debut campaign. Having seen his first-team chances limited at PSV due to injury, Florian was pleased his stay in West London was extended and he is looking to build on an encouraging first six months at Griffin Park.
“I talked with the Head Coach, I talked to my agent, and I talked to my family and this is the right place for me to develop myself and to play matches,” said Florian, speaking to iFollow. “There are a lot of matches in the Sky Bet Championship so, at this point in my career, it was best to stay here. I think my time here last season went well: I wasn’t pleased with everything but it was a nice time to get used to the competition, to the style of English football, and to my teammates and coaches. It is easier coming back, I am used to everybody already and now it is time to go.”
Florian’s first goal in English football arrived in the 1-1 draw on Easter Monday away at Barnsley with the Dutch winger also contributing three assists from his 19 games. With competition so fierce out wide, Florian admits his goals and assists tally is something that he needs to work on.
“I want to be important for the team and for the group,” said Florian. “We want to get better as a group but I want to get better as a player. I want to achieve the max for myself and for the group. The main thing for me is to add goals and assists. It is only good for the team that you have got variety. There are so many games so having that will be good.”
Florian was speaking to iFollow earlier this week after returning to pre-season training on Monday. The former Ajax youngster was pleased to get back in and meet up with his teammates again ahead of an important month leading up to the season opener against Sheffield United on 5 August.
“It was nice coming back,” Florian revealed. “Everyone is excited to start again and get back into the competition. We talked about our aims for this season before last season ended and again when we came back. Everyone in the group knows what we want to achieve and that is important. The foundation of the season is set in pre-season. If you can get that base, with your teammates, then that is going to help you as a team and as individuals to get better and play as well as possible. I am very excited to get going again.”
