Brentford to play Celta Vigo in final pre-season friendly

Sky Blues to visit Griffin Park on 29 July

15 June 2017

Brentford will welcome Spanish giants Real Club Celta de Vigo to Griffin Park for a pre-season friendly. The La Liga side will visit West London for Brentford’s final friendly ahead of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season. The game will take place on Saturday 29 July and will kick-off at Griffin Park at 3pm. Ticketing information will follow in due course.

This will be the second visit to England for Celta in the space of three months. In early May, they faced Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Europa League and were within a whisker of knocking the English side out, losing 2-1 on aggregate. Celta finished 13th in La Liga in 2016/17, the first time in four years they have finished outside the top ten, and reached the last four of the Copa del Rey for the second successive year.

The match will be a reunion for Brentford attacker Jota, who joined The Bees from Celta in the summer of 2014. Former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas could be in the Celta squad along with Swedish international John Gudetti, who spent much of his early career at Manchester City, Chilean international Pedro Pablo Hernández and former FC Midtjylland attacker Pione Sisto.

The game is Brentford’s fifth confirmed friendly ahead of the 2017/18 season. The pre-season schedule will start with a trip to Aldershot Town on 7 July and there are also away games against Oxford United, on 19 July, and Milton Keynes Dons, on 25 July. Premier League Southampton will visit Griffin Park on Saturday 22 July.
