Chelsea XI 1 Brentford B 2

Brentford B took on a Chelsea XI at Cobham this morning in the fourth match of pre-season, with Kevin O’Connor’s side looking to maintain their unbeaten form.

The Bees got us underway and instantly attacked with energy, taking the game straight to their Chelsea counterparts.

On 3 minutes, Mepham was forced in to a clearance off the line following a well worked Chelsea corner, and the Bees quickly turned defence into attack.

A few minutes later the Bees conceded a penalty following an Onariase challenge. Balcombe couldn’t meet the set piece and Chelsea took the lead.

The Blues then took the game to the Bees, upping their attacking play following their spot kick.

On 12 minutes, Balcombe produced a fine save from a Blues effort from outside the area, with the Bees able to clear their lines immediately.

Following some good possession play on 15 minutes, Shaibu drove the ball through the centre of the pitch, ending with a good strike on the Chelsea goal.

A good Bees attack a minute later ended with Archibald letting fly from the 18 yard box. The Bees were beginning to find their rhythm.

Chelsea continued to play the ball up from the back, forcing the Bees to defend deep.

On 23 minutes a Chelsea brake down the right wing ended in their cross-shot being double saved by Balcombe in the Bees goal.

Minutes later, Coote and Archibald linked up well on the edge of the box, but were unable to deliver an end product to a promising attack.

Ali Coote levelled the game on 27 minutes, with a great long range effort from 20 yards, following some excellent Bees cross field play.

Chatzitheodoridis drove down the left wing and delivered a teasing cross a few minutes later, Archibald just unable to meet the ball.

Down the other end, Chelsea broke quickly forcing Mepham into a fine by-line tackle to break down the attack.

Just before half time Brentford played out quickly from the back, with Clayton looking for the through ball to Shaibu - Chelsea just able to sweep up the Bees attack.

In the dying moments of the first half, Balcombe was again called into action, saving a long-range Chelsea effort.

After the break the Bees looked to take the game to Chelsea, Clayton and Westbrooke linking down the right wing looking for a Brentford breakthrough.

More attacks followed, Chatzitheodoridis unleashing some excellent footwork to beat his man and release Westbooke who was just unable to find Archibald.

The Bees were then forced to absorb several Chelsea attacks, as the Blues increased the pressure on O’Connor’s side.

The Blues kept coming at Brentford, with some tidy play up from the midfield and across the front two.

On the hour mark Alves gave way for Holldack as the Bees looked to change their attacking play.

The change had an instant impact, when Talbro’s low cross was met by Shaibu inside the six yard box to put the Bees ahead.

Assibey-Mensah and Forss were introduced on 70 minutes to give the Bees fresh legs, Coote and Shaibu gave way.

On 74 minutes, Holldack tried his luck from distance but was unable to trouble the Blues keeper.

A great left wing cross from Chatzitheodoridis then found Holldack on the 18 yard box, forcing Chelsea’s keeper into a low save.

80 minutes saw the addition of Jan Novak, with Theo Archibald making way.

The Bees were now in control of the game, attacking with pace and confidence.

The 89th minute saw the Bees continue to press, Clayton going close from the edge of the box.
