Match Preview: Brentford B v Chelsea XI

Kevin O'Connor's side head to Cobham for fourth game of pre-season

21 July 2017

On Saturday morning, at 11am, Brentford B get their fourth game of pre-season underway at Cobham Training Centre against a Chelsea XI.

It will be the first game of the season on British soil for Kevin O'Connor's squad, who have been to Hungary and Portugal so far this July.

In Central Europe, The Bees beat ETO Gyor 4-0 before taking a narrow 2-1 victory over MSK Zilina. Then in Lisbon, Brentford B recorded a quite incredible 6-0 win over Benfica B - a team who play in the second tier of Portuguese football.

The opposition

The B Team played Chelsea squads three times last season, failing to snatch a victory in any of their matches. The first, in July 2016, saw Emmanuel Ledesma score in a 1-1 draw, before Lukas Talbro scored in a narrow 2-1 defeat a month later.

In November that year, in what was Kevin O'Connor's first full game in charge of the B Team, the two sides drew 0-0 with Brentford missing a last-minute effort from close range.

Some of the biggest names to play Brentford last year included Loic Remy, Patrick Bamford and Tomas Kalas.

Brentford B

The B Team are still without winger Henrik Johansson but show no other injury concerns.Marcus Forss is now the team's top goalscorer on four, closely followed by Ali Coote on three. Zain Westbrooke has two to his name, while Ilias Chatzitheodoridis, Theo Archibald and Jan Novak have all scored one so far this season.

With a First Team pre-season match scheduled for 3pm the same day, some squad members may have received the call to play with Dean Smith against Southampton and therefore miss the trip. The most recent call-ups to the main squad include Reece Cole, Manny Onariase and Chris Mepham.
