Mixed afternoon for Brentford Women's FC

9 January 2017

One win and one defeat for The Bees on Sunday

Brentford Women’s FC lost ground at the top of the Greater London Women’s Football League Division One after a 2-0 defeat to Hackney Women’s on Sunday at Lampton School.

In a match between third and fourth in the table, it took the visitors less than two minutes to go ahead against Ryan Peters’ side, and the points were wrapped up with ten minutes to play, Amy Nicholson and Lizzie Tucker the scorers.

The defeat leaves The Bees six points off the top in third with a trip to fifth placed Clapham United, who they drew 1-1 with last month, to look forward to next weekend.

It was a better afternoon at Lampton School for the Development Team as they picked up the three points after a battling 2-1 win over Baldon Sports.

Emily Reynolds’ looping cross deceived everyone to give The Bees a first-half lead but Baldon were level at the break in similar circumstances, a free-kick from wide on the left finding its way directly into the back of the net. Without a league win since October, The Bees dug deep in the second-half and struck the decisive goal with 20 minutes to go, substitute Gel Burgess guiding a shot just inside the far post from a neat cutback.

Baldon pushed for an equaliser late on but couldn’t find a way past the impressive Emily Boycott as The Bees moved up to fifth in the Division Three South table ahead of next weekend’s home game against South London Laces.
