All the info ahead of tomorrow's meeting at Griffin Park

Brentford vs Newcastle United

Saturday 14 January
Griffin Park
Sky Bet Championship
Kick-off: 3pm

The Opponents

What appeared to be a smooth ride back to the Premier League for Newcastle United has hit choppy waters in recent times as Rafa Benitez's side dropped points over the Christmas and New Year period. Nine points clear of third and on the back of eight straight league wins in the last week of November, The Magpies have lost four of their eight games since then to cede top spot to Brighton and Hove Albion. Benitez' side still hold a six point gap over third place but the chasing pack of Reading, Leeds United, and Huddersfield Town are all closing in. United will be without the suspended Jonjo Shelvey for Saturday's encounter at Griffin Park as well as the injured Rolando Aarons.

The Manager

Rafa Benitez brings with him one of the most successful CVs in world football to the second tier. His former clubs include Valencia, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, and Real Madrid and a trophy cabinet filled with two La Liga titles, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup, one FA Cup, one Italian Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and two Italian Super Cups.

The 56-year-old Spaniard had a short playing career as a defender before starting on the path to management. It was at Valencia that he first proved himself, winning two league titles in a division dominated by Real Madrid and FC Barcelona before moving to Liverpool. Benitez is still revered on the red half of Merseyside for his five years at Anfield. The Spaniard's only previous visit to Griffin Park came as Chelsea manager during the 2012/13 season when Uwe Rosler's side took The Blues to a replay in the FA Cup Fourth Round.
