Catch up with the fortunes of the Brentford players out on loan this weekend
It was an unbeaten weekend for Brentford’s three loan players as the German league returned after its winter break and Manny Onariase helped Cheltenham Town keep their first clean sheet away from home since October.
In Germany, Andy Gogia lasted just 15 minutes before being forced off with injury in Dynamo Dresden’s 2-1 win away at 1. FC Nürnberg. In his absence Dresden took the lead on the half-hour thanks to Philip Heise’s tap in. That advantage was doubled a minute into the second-half by Erich Berko and, although the hosts pulled one back with 20 minutes to play, Dresden held on to climb to fifth in the 2.Bundesliga table.
Also in Germany, there was a scoring debut for Jan Holldack as SV Wuppertaler beat FSV Vohwinkel 4-0 in a friendly match on Sunday. The midfielder, who has signed on loan until the end of the season, added the third with a neat finish after Kevin Hageman and Ercan Aydogmus had put SVW in charge. Dominik Heinen then wrapped up the win with 20 minutes to play. SVW return to league action the weekend after next with a home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf U23.
Elsewhere, Cheltenham Town picked up a point to stay just above the relegation zone in Sky Bet League Two with a 0-0 draw away at Crewe Alexandra. Both sides had chances at The Alexandra Stadium but a mixture of fine goalkeeping and wasteful finishing meant that it finished goalless. The appearance was Manny’s sixth for The Robins following his switch earlier this month.
