B Team Head Coach encourages confidence following result at FCB
Kevin O'Connor was relatively pleased with his side's performance against FC Bayern Munich U19s on Saturday afternoon. Speaking to Bees Player straight after the final whistle blew on a 1-1 draw at The Reds' training ground, Kevin reflected on the B Team's positive display.
"I think after the start, going one-nil down like we did, then the first half was very good," said Kevin. "We controlled it and built our way into the game and I thought deservedly got the equaliser.
"The second half was a little bit disappointing, I wanted a bit more from us. On the flip side, the way we defended was very good, and limited them to a free-kick and one header so lots of positives."
On a bitterly cold afternoon in Bavaria, after a morning of heavy snow, Brentford played the game on one of Bayern's synthetic pitches.
"I think the conditions were fine," said Kevin. "Obviously it's cold and on the Astro but I think that helped our boys move the ball quicker. In a way, it could've helped us."
Looking ahead to the team's coming trip to Odense, Denmark, Kevin pointed out the need for a positive attitude when approaching the first competitive tournament of his tenure.
"That's the whole point," he said. "It's what I said to the boys there, especially the first half performance. The way we controlled the game against Bayern Munich, we have to be positive going into this tournament. We can take [confidence] into Denmark now and have to get results."
