Lasse Vibe gives his thoughts on Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United
Brentford striker Lasse Vibe admitted he felt there was only going to be one winner yesterday as The Bees suffered a frustrating late defeat at the hands of Newcastle United at Griffin Park. Dwight Gayle’s first-half goal had the visitors ahead but after that it was almost all Bees. Lasse equalised just into the second-half and despite intense Brentford pressure the decisive third goal went to The Mapgies on the counter-attack as they took the points back to the North-East.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match, Lasse said: “It was a frustrating one to lose. I thought that the staff scouted the game really well. Everything that they said they would do, they did. We set little traps for them and were doing the things that hurt them. I thought that we were going to win it. The belief was there, even in the first-half when we were losing, and it just felt like a matter of time until we scored the second.”
Despite running the league leaders so close, Lasse believes it is important that the team doesn’t sit back and think that they have cracked it after Saturday's performance. The striker feels there is room for taking both the positives and addressing the negatives to ensure that the team continue to move forward.
“The last time we played well at home and should have won was close to that Norwich game which we lost 5-0,” said Lasse. “We have got to be careful how we take this game because we didn’t put in great performances after that game. I think we can be harder on ourselves because that helps to push us forward. We shouldn’t be slapping each other on the back after his performance, we can take the positives from today, but we need to keep working.”
