B Team off on European Tour to take on Bayern Munich II ahead of invitational tournament in Denmark
Brentford B are about to tour Europe hoping to return with some silverware and the scalp of one of the biggest teams in world football. Kevin O’Connor’s side will travel to Germany this Thursday for a prestigious fixture against Bayern Munich II before moving on to Denmark next Sunday for the invitational Kai Thor Cup in Odense.
The B Team have already taken on Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Valencia, and Villareal this season but now face the 26 time German Champions and five time Champions League winners in a historic friendly match next Saturday afternoon, 14 January, in Munich. The Kleine Bayern or ‘Little Bayern’ set-up has been a breeding ground for top class talent with Philipp Lahm, Tony Kroos, Thomas Muller, and Bastian Schweinsteiger among its graduates this century.
After the fixture in Munich, Brentford B head to Odense in Denmark for the Kai Thor Cup alongside Danish sides Esbjerg and Odense Boldklub, Norway’s Brann Bergen, Hamburger SV of Germany and Lech Poznan from Poland. The Bees have been drawn against Esbjerg and Hamburg in the Group stages, which will be played on Friday 20 January, with a finals day on Sunday 22 January.
Head of Football Operations Rob Rowan: “Everyone is looking forward to the 11 days away. The players have got a great opportunity to test themselves against some very high level opposition whilst the staff have the opportunity to learn from and network with key staff from other clubs across Europe. All of this can only aid our player and staff development, moving us closer to our goal of producing First Team players for Brentford FC.”
