Preston North End vs Brentford
Saturday 11 February
Sky Bet Championship
After taking just six points from their opening seven games, and then being beaten 5-0 at Griffin Park, it looked like it could be a long season for Simon Grayson's side. However, since then North End have responded magnificently, losing just four of their next 22 to go into Saturday's game in 11th place, seven points outside the top six. Results have dropped off slightly in 2017, The Lilywhites winning just two of their seven matches this year in all competitions, but they still remain within striking distance of the Play-Off places with a third of the season to play.
January saw Preston re-inforce their squad with the additions of Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan from Dundalk and the Morecambe defender Tom Barkhuizen. Tyias Browning joined on loan from Everton while Bailey Wright departed for Bristol City and Eoin Doyle headed to Portsmouth on loan. Preston will be without long-term absentees Calum Woods, John Welsh, and Alex Baptiste on Saturday but other than that Grayson has a full squad to choose from.
Simon Grayson is approaching his fourth anniversary at Preston, making him the second longest serving manager in the Championship. The former Leicester City and Aston Villa fullback took charge in February 2013, in place of Graham Westley.
He rescued North End from the brink of relegation in his first season, before defeat in the play-offs a year later. The following season, they went up after their tenth attempt at promotion from via the Play-Offs. This is Grayson’s fourth managerial role, after Blackpool, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town.
