Brentford Women’s FC suffered a 7-0 defeat on the road at Godalming Town to stretch their winless to five games while the Development Team put 11 past Tower Hamlets Reserves this weekend.
Craig Brown’s side started well and should have taken an early lead but Carmela Garcia sent her close-range effort the wrong side of the post. The hosts showed how it was done shortly after as a swift counter-attack created space for their forward to poke home from inside the six-yard box.
With regular goalkeeper Naomi Swift out injured, midfielder Ana Cardenas took over between the posts and it was she who gave away the penalty from which the home side made it 2-0 just before the break.
The Bees continued to create, and fail to take, clear-cut chances after the break with the hosts ruthlessly punishing them for those misses. A long-range effort made it 3-0 before, with Brown’s side pushing forward, the hosts struck four more times late on to wrap up a convincing win.
Things don’t get much easier for The Bees as they head to top of the table Ashford Town in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy next Sunday.
It was a much better Sunday afternoon for Brentford Development as they put 11 past Tower Hamlets Reserves in East London. The win was their fourth in five matches in the Greater London Women’s Football League Division Three North and sees them stay just two points off third place.
Naomi Totten and Shannon Read both scored four with Nadia Peters, Geraldine Burgess, and Lucy Johnson the others on target in their biggest win of the season. The score-line means Justin Ali and Nathan Mobey’s side are now averaging just under four goals a game ahead of their trip to Hackney Marshes to play eighth-placed Hackney Womens Reserves next weekend.
