Sergi Canos admits there will be a little extra motivation as he makes his return to Norwich City almost a year after departing. The 20-year-old endured a tough six months in East Anglia last season, making just three league appearances, before re-joining The Bees in January. Now, as he prepares for his first trip back to Carrow Road, Sergi said he wants to show all those at Norwich City what he is about.
“I am an ex-Norwich City player so, with everything that happened there last season, there is an extra motivation for me,” Sergi told iFollow Brentford earlier this week. “I want to show everyone who I am. You can see in all of us that we want to win that game. We are going to try and beat them.”
The Bees go into the game on the back of a goalless draw against Barnsley at Griffin Park last time out. Despite their domination of the game, Dean Smith’s side couldn’t find a way through with Sergi admitting they were not happy to just take a point.
“It was really frustrating: we drew the game but it felt like we lost the game,” said Dean. “You could see on our faces that we were really disappointed but we are trying to move on and we are going to try and do that. They were lucky to finish up with a 0-0. We created a lot of chances and if we play like that 100 times we will win 99 of them and draw one. It was just that last weekend was the one draw.”
Tomorrow’s trip to Norwich City marks the midway point of the season with The Bees in 13th place, nine points off the table six. Sergi says he isn’t paying any attention to the league table at this moment given how quickly it can change.
“I have always said that the table means nothing,” said Sergi. “If you win two games then you are up there and if you lose two games then you are down there. Hopefully we can get on another run and win some of the next games.”
