Brentford FC Futsal Club 8 Chelsea FC Futsal Club B 0 (Guildford Spectrum – 29/11/17)
A strange quirk of fixture scheduling saw Brentford’s Futsal Bees take on Chelsea’s ‘B’ team last Wednesday after having played and beaten the same side in a close game in the opening round of the league season. With three players missing from their squad, Brentford travelled to The Guildford Spectrum with seven fit players for match day two. But that proved to not be a hindrance.
Brentford dominated the early stages of the of the game when stand-in skipper, Said Gutale opened the scoring for the Bees with a shot from close range in the fifth minute. Despite controlling the game, the TW8 scholars couldn’t find a way to break down the Chelsea defence until five minutes before the interval when Brentford were awarded a free kick 12 metres from goal. The resulting goal mouth scramble saw Gutale smash in his second virtually on the goal line.
The Bees then added a third when Rad Usman beat the Chelsea keeper from eight metres out with a powerful shot and replicated the first half score from the first game against The Blues. This time however, Brentford did not give Chelsea a chance to get a foothold in the game when Ali Hassan faced with a one-on-one against the keeper finished calmly to make it 4-0 in the first minute of the second half.
Two quick goals by Rad Usman, completing his hattrick and putting the game beyond Chelsea at 6-0 with 13 minutes to go. The Bees skipper, Gutale also completed his hattrick in the 31st minute as the goal count hit seven. Naz Abdullah ended the Brentford scoring in the 34th minute when he scored an excellent individual goal to make it 8-0.
The one blip in Brentford’s day was when goalkeeper Bahaa Jalkhi was dismissed with 30 seconds to go when he denied Chelsea a goal scoring opportunity by handling outside the area. The win puts the Futsal Bees in second place with the four top teams qualifying for the National League Playoffs.
Head Coach, Luis Melville spoke after the game, praising the squad. He said: "We suffered three late withdrawals but we decided to go with our original game plan in the first half and it paid off. My feeling was Chelsea would try to press us in the second half which meant that instead of playing from the back we decided to use our pivot (striker) and wingers much higher up the court and we were able to be a constant goal threat."
Brentford have two friendlies coming up against Reading Escolla Development (FA Futsal National League Division Two) and Bristol City Futsal Club U19s before they play current division leaders, Albion in The Community on match day three on Wednesday 13 December.
