Brentford fans have raised £1500 for Prostate Cancer UK after donating to a flag supporting legendary matchday announcer Peter Gilham, who is currently fighting the disease.
Peter, who has been on the mic at Griffin Park for nearly half a century, revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with the most common cancer in males in the UK and was to undergo treatment. As well as the hundreds of well-wishes that poured in, one group of Brentford fans commissioned a flag to support Peter in his battle.
Supporters donated to the project in their numbers, raising the £275 for the flag in hours, going on to eventually raise £1,757 in total, of which £1,482 will go to the EFL’s Official Charity Partner and the work they do fighting cancer in men.
The flag itself was unveiled before Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest, at which Peter's voice, as ever, could be heard over the tannoy, and now has pride of place in the New Road Stand.
