Limited Checkatrade Trophy action for Bees this midweek

Catch up with the fortunes of The Bees youngsters out on loan

30 August 2017

There was Checkatrade Trophy action this midweek for our young players out on loan as the EFL Trophy got fully underway.

Reece Cole was the only one of our trio of EFL loan players to see action: the 19-year-old midfielder was a half-time substitute as Newport County suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Forest Green Rovers in their opening group game. Dan Wishart gave the hosts a 21st minutes lead and the win was wrapped up six minutes from time thanks to a fine Luke James strike.

Elsewhere, Tom Field and Jack Bonham were both not included in the matchday squads as Bradford City and Carlisle United got their campaigns off to winning starts. The Bantams were 4-2 winners away at Chesterfield while United were also winners on the road, after a 2-0 success over Morecambe.

All three will hope to be in league action this coming weekend. Bradford City host Bristol Rovers at 12.30pm on Saturday, live on Sky Football, while in League Two Carlisle United are at home to Mansfield Town and Newport County make the trip South West to Exeter City.
