Konstantin Kerschbaumer scored his first goal for DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Monday night as they beat VFL Bochum 1848 2-0 to maintain their perfect start to the 2.Bundesliga season. Andreas Voglsammer gave the home side an early lead with a tap-in after 22 minutes and DSC doubled their advantage nine minutes before the interval, Kerschbaumer’s in-swinging cross evading everyone and nesting in the bottom corner. That was how it stayed meaning DSC open up a two-point lead at the top of the table ahead of Sunday’s trip to sixth-placed Union Berlin.

A single first-half goal from Ernest Asante moved FC Nordsjaelland and Emiliano Marcondes three points clear at the top of the Alka Superliga after Monday’s win over FC Helsingør. Asante raced onto a through ball after 15 minutes and slotted home to wrap up a fifth win in six for FCN. Next up for the Danish top division pacesetters is a home game against København on Sunday.

Last night, Jack Bonham put in another impressive display as Sky Bet League Two side Carlisle United pushed Sunderland all the way in their Carabao Cup tie at Brunton Park. The Bees keeper made two fine first-half saves but was powerless to prevent Lynden Gooch giving the Black Cats a 24th minute lead. The home side hit back on the hour, Danny Grainger following up after Robben Ruiter saved his initial penalty, but Sunderland won it late on through Donald Love.

Reece Cole was an unused substitute as Newport County’s Carabao Cup run came to an end at the hands of Leeds United. Joss Labadie gave The Exiles a first-half lead but Kemar Roofe’s hat-trick plus late goals from Samu Saiz and Ronaldo Vieira ensured it was United who progressed to Round Three.

Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two action sees Carlisle United travel to Lincoln City while Newport County host Chesterfield. In League One, Tom Field and Bradford City head to Walsall as seventh meets 12th.
