Kamohelo Motokjo has been called up to the South Africa squad for next month’s World Cup Qualifiers against Cape Verde. The Brentford midfielder is part of Stuart Baxter’s 25-man squad for the match at the Estadio Nacional Stadium in Cape Verde on Friday 1 September and the return game at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban the following Tuesday, 5 September.
Bafana Bafana are currently second in Group D of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with four points from two games. September’s opponents Cape Verde prop up the table after a pair of defeats to Burkina Faso and Senegal. The five group winners will automatically qualify for next summer’s tournament in Russia so two wins next month will go a long-way to securing South Africa’s participation.
Kamohelo has six caps for his nation, the most recent of which came in a 3-1 friendly win over Guinea-Bissau in March. He is the only British based player included in the group which features players from South Africa, Holland, Turkey, France, and Portugal.
