Brentford winger Florian Jozefzoon feels The Bees are in a good place as they build-up to Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship opener against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Dean Smith’s side remained unbeaten during their pre-season campaign, which included a win over Europa League Semi-Finalists Celta Vigo and a draw against Southampton, and Florian believes they are ready and raring to go.
“I feel really good,” Florian told iFollow Brentford. “We got good results in all the games that we played: we didn’t lose. The team are very sharp and I think we are in a good place going into the weekend. We are very excited ahead of the season. Everybody wants to start and everyone wants to be better tomorrow than they were today. Everyone is excited about the season and I think that it is going to be fun.”
Florian has impressed during the pre-season programme with goals against Aldershot Town, Oxford United, and Milton Keynes Dons. The 26-year-old is one of a number of players fighting for a starting berth in South Yorkshire tomorrow and said it is up to the players to make Dean Smith’s choice a difficult one.
“I want to be important for the team but there are always things that I can do better,” admitted Florian. “Everybody in defence, the midfield, and attack has to be sharp. Everyone has to train well and watch themselves to do the best that they can. Dean Smith has to make the choice and it is up to us to make it hard for him.”
The winger joined The Bees in January from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven. After starting life at Griffin Park midway through a season, Florian said it was nice to have a full pre-season to get accustomed to what Dean wants him to do this term.
“If you have a full pre-season then you get to really know each other and get adjusted to the tempo of training,” said Florian. “I got used to things a bit in January but now I am used to the team and everything we are working on in training. It is always better when you can get a full pre-season with your team.”
