Jota named in EFL Team of the Week

24 April 2017

Winger's double against QPR sees him make EFL selection

Jota has been included in the EFL Team of the Weekend after his star turn in Saturday's 3-1 derby win over Queens Park Rangers at Griffin Park. The Spaniard scored two and set up the other as The Bees secured a first double over QPR since 1965.

It was his corner that Yoann Barbet slammed home in the first-half to open the scoring and he made it 2-0 from the spot on the hour. Joel Lynch threatened a comeback by heading home shortly later but a goal of real quality from Jota made the points safe almost immediately. His first touch sent the ball round Jake Bidwell, his second took him past the covering Lynch, and his third saw him fire under Alex Smithies to make it 3-1. Jota's strike was nominated as both the Sky Sports News HQ Goal of the Day and the EFL Goal of the Weekend.

Pace, technique, and composure.

Three things that made this @KingJota goal beautiful. 😍

For his brace and assist Jota was selected in the EFL Team of the Week, published on the EFL website, which is drawn from the performances over the previous weekend's action across all Sky Bet Football League divisions. Jota joins Scott Hogan and John Egan in being twice selected for the team, while Lasse Vibe was the most recent Bees inclusion in the team after his double of goals and assists against Burton Albion last month.
