Skipper hails performance as Bees win three in a row.
Captain Harlee Dean spoke to Bees PlayerHD after the 2-0 win over Leeds United at Griffin Park, a result which meant Brentford have picked up six points out of six in four days, with two consecutive clean sheets gained in the process.
“We had a good performance Saturday in the first half,” said Harlee. “We were 2-0 up and tried to control the game and we’ve done the same tonight, but we were 11 men out there on the pitch. Leeds are a good team and in the Play-Offs, and we’ve turned up and played well; the characteristic all over the pitch was to win their battles, keep the ball, and play nice football. To a man I thought we were brilliant.”
The win gave Dean Smith’s side their third victory in a row for the first time this season, which underlined the captain’s call last month to be more consistent.
“If we can carry on like this and take that into the beginning of next season then we’ll be a force to be reckoned with,” said Harlee. “It’s been a little bit frustrating, but we know what we can get to, and the levels we’ve got to reach. You’ve got to do it day-in, day-out and aspire to be the best. That’s how you’ll get promoted, which is what everyone wants.”
He also praised goalscorer Romaine Sawyers, saying there was more to come from the 25-year-old midfielder.
“He’s one of the most intelligent players I’ve played football with,” said Harlee. “I know his demeanour may look a little bit laid back, but he’s never out of position, never lazy. People have the wrong perception of him and he’s slowly changing it. He’s one of the best players in the team and a great acquisition in the summer. He’ll only go on to get better and better, and he will reach the top.”
