Striker wins monthly award after netting six goals in September

Brentford striker Scott Hogan has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for September. Now restored to full fitness, the 24-year-old is beginning to realise the potential that was evident at Rochdale. His movement and intelligence are exceptional and underpinned his six goals in five games, including a hat-trick against Preston North End.

Brentford manager Dean Smith said: “I am delighted that Scott has won this award. He has fully deserved it on his performances this month. To score six goals in a month is a fantastic achievement and I am really pleased for Scott.”

Hogan said: “Since I have been back, in the three footballing months, I have been nominated twice and won one now which isn’t bad going. It is a team thing and if someone is getting rewarded for something then it is because the team are doing the right thing. Personal achievements are team achievements. If someone wins the Player of the Month then it is because the team have helped them and it is a team effort really.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “It’s great to see Scott fit after bouncing back from two career-threatening injuries. His goal scoring record at the moment is outstanding. I first noticed him at Rochdale and have kept an eye on him since his comeback from injury. Scott is a player I think can go on and play at a higher level.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “In a month where plenty of strikers found their scoring form it was Hogan who just stood out from the pack and takes a hotly contested award.  His six goals in the month were a league high, and they all came in important wins for Brentford as they look to solidify their league position. Perhaps most impressive of all was a hat trick in a home win over Preston, which was considered a 33/1 chance. Hogan has hit seven goals in 11 games and is 6/1 to finish as Championship top scorer, having been 20/1 at the start of the campaign.”
