Brentford vs Birmingham City

Saturday 26 November
Griffin Park
Sky Bet Championship
Kick-off: 3pm

The Opponents

Gary Rowett brings his Birmingham City side to Griffin Park this weekend with Blues sitting in fifth place in the Sky Bet Championship, seven points off the automatic promotion places. After taking five points from their opening four matches this season, Blues really hit their straps in late August and September. Norwich City, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, and Blackburn Rovers were all beaten as part of a seven game unbeaten run which saw them go into the October international break inside the top six. That victory at Fulham in early September was their last on the road and since then they have taken just three points from five matches away from St Andrews. Blues recent form has been mixed with two of each from their last six matches following home wins over Rotherham United and Bristol City, draws against Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town, and away defeats at Nottingham Forest and Burton Albion.
Birmingham added seven new faces this summer with Ryan Shotton [Derby County] and Dan Cleary [Liverpool] coming in on 1 July. They were joined later on in the window by Jack Storer [Stevenage], Che Adams [Sheffield United], Greg Stewart [Dundee United], Rhoys Wiggins [AFC Bournemouth], and Lukas Jutkiewicz [Burnley], the latter two joining on loan. The major departures from St Andrew's came in the shape of David Edgar [Vancouver Whitecaps], Nick Townsend [Barnsley], Neal Eardley [Hibernian].

The Manager

Former City player Gary Rowett joined Blues from Burton Albion in October 2014, replacing Lee Clark. With appearances for Everton, Derby County, Leicester City and Cambridge United during a 16-year playing career, Rowett made the step into management after hanging up his boots with Burton. Rowett led The Brewers to the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs in both his full seasons with the club before moving to St Andrew's to save his old club from relegation during the 2014/15 season. Despite Blues sitting 21st when he took over he guided them to a tenth placed finish before matching that feat again last season. After just over two years in the job, Rowett already finds himself as the third longest serving manager in the second tier.
