Defender looks back on two goals in birthday win over United
Chris Mepham scored two goals against Manchester United Under-23s in Brentford's 3-2 win at Griffin Park on Saturday. The centre-back scored a brace either side of a goal from Herson Alves on the day of his 19th birthday.
"It was a massive victory," said Chris. "It was a great team performance, especially in the first half. It was disappointing in the second half to let our standards drop a bit but with the amount of pressure we were under, I thought we did well throughout the team to grind out a victory.
"They're a massive side and one of the biggest sides in the country so we knew it was going to be a big test but at the same time we never give our opponents too much respect. We've competed against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in the past, there's no reason we can't do it against United."
Chris got the scoring going with a strike from nearly 35 yards out, a moment he described with a lot of satisfaction.
"I was driving out with the ball and everything just opened up for me, so I thought why not and lucky on this occasion it went straight in the back of the net."
