Brentford travel to The Den in July for pre-season match
Brentford’s build-up to the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season will include a pre-season friendly against Millwall that will act as a testimonial match for former Bees captain Tony Craig. The Bees will play six pre-season matches ahead of the new season and the Club can now confirm the game on Saturday 30 July will be against Millwall. The match will be played at The Den and will kick-off at 3pm. This will be Brentford’s final friendly ahead of the start of the season a week later.
Tony spent three years at Brentford, between 2012 and 2015. He signed from Millwall and then returned to the South London side last summer. He was part of the Millwall team which won promotion from League One via the Play-Offs in 2010 and played in the second tier for both The Lions and Crystal Palace before joining Brentford. He played 55 games in his first season at Griffin Park and captained Brentford in the 2013 npower League One Play-Off Final.
He made his 100th Brentford appearance towards the end of the 2013/14 season, a year in which he helped The Bees to promotion to the Sky Bet Championship, captaining the side for the majority of the campaign. Tony made his 100th league appearance for Brentford in November 2014 and left having played 127 games for The Bees, 111 of them in the Football League. He was appointed Club Captain at Millwall when he returned and is preparing for a Sky Bet League One Play-Off campaign with The Lions.
Tony said: "I'm very thankful to Millwall for giving me a testimonial. I had three years of success at Brentford so it is fantastic that the club are coming to The Den for the match. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Griffin Park and it is really special that Brentford will be there for a day which I’m really looking forward to. It will be a special day for my family, who have been there through thick and thin with me. I can't wait for it.”
Tony, who has played 254 games for Millwall in all competitions and made more than 400 professional appearances overall, has kindly decided to make a donation from the proceeds generated by his testimonial to Headley Court, the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Surrey. Ticket information will follow in due course.
