Fixture Release Day: back-to-back London derbies

22 June 2016

The 2016/17 fixtures have been released, here are some of the highlights

The fixtures for the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship have been released, which means Brentford have a provisional schedule for all 46 league matches this season.

The opening day has The Bees return to where the 15/16 campaign ended as Huddersfield Town play host on Saturday 6 August.

The first league visitors to Griffin Park will once again be Ipswich Town, after a dramatic 2-2 draw in August 2015 opened Brentford's home calendar.

A trip to Villa Park will be the first chance for Dean Smith to test his side against one of the relegated teams from the Premier League, that falls on Tuesday 13 September. The Bees will also play Norwich City (3 December) and Newcastle United (15 October) on the road in the first half of the season. The return fixtures are all at Griffin Park, with Newcastle acting as the first home league visit of 2017 (14 January).

The first of the promoted teams to face Brentford will be Wigan Athletic on 1 October, Barnsley and Burton Albion will then visit on 22 October and 10 December respectively.

The derby between Brentford and Queens Park Rangers takes place on Saturday 29 October. The very next fixture sees Fulham return to Griffin Park for a second West London clash in as many weeks.
