Striker included in Denmark squad for this summer's Olympic Games football tournament
Lasse Vibe has been named in Denmark's 18 man squad for next month's Olympic Games football tournament in Rio De Janeiro. The Danes will take on Iraq in their opening match on 4 August in Brasilia before facing South Africa three days later at the same venue. Their final group game is against the hosts in Salvador on 10 August. The top two teams from each nation go through to the Quarter-Finals with the Gold Medal and Bronze medal matches being played on 20 August.
The 29-year-old striker who was joint top scorer last season, alongside Alan Judge, with 14 goals for The Bees will join up with his teammates at the end of the month before flying off to begin his quest for Olympic gold. Lasse, one of the three over-23s permitted in Niels Frederiksen's squad, is joined by two other English based players, Fulham's Lasse Vigen Christensen and Birmingham City's Nicolai Brock-Madsen. Denmark last appeared in the Olympic football tournament at Barcelona 1992. Previously they won the silver medal in 1908, 1912, and 1960 and the bronze medal at the London games in 1948.
Lasse has earned ten caps for his nation so far, scoring his only international goal in a 1-1 European Championship qualifying draw with Albania in October 2014.
