Mark Smith heads back out on loan

8 January 2016

Young Brentford goalkeeper joins Vanarama National League North Lowestoft Town for a month

Brentford goalkeeper Mark Smith has joined Lowestoft Town on loan. The 20-year-old – who signed a new one-year contract in the summer – completed the move to the Vanarama National League North side today, Friday 8 January. He will remain with them for one month. Mark’s Youth Loan will expire on 3 February.

It is the second loan spell of the season for the young goalkeeper. He spent around two months at Hampton and Richmond Borough before returning to Brentford when the deal expired just before Christmas. Mark played 11 games during his loan and Hampton won eight of them with the goalkeeper keeping two clean sheets and conceding just 11 goals.

Mark signed a one-year Development Squad contract in 2014 after a successful trial following his release from Queens Park Rangers. He had loan spells at Hitchin Town and Hampton – where he played 22 games and won two Player of the Month awards – last term and played eight games for Brentford’s Development Squad in the Under-21 Professional Development League.

The stopper was offered a new one-year deal by The Bees at the end of 2014/15, promoted to the First Team group and given a squad number for the current campaign. He has been an unused substitute on two occasions this season and played a further six games for the Development Squad.
