Maxime Colin ‘really happy’ after Bristol City win

14 December 2016

Goalscorer reflects on 1-0 victory at Ashton Gate

Maxime Colin admitted his goal was a case of substance over style as The Bees wrapped up a second league win in four days after a 1-0 success over Bristol City. The French defender deflected Romaine Sawyers’ fierce drive past Ivan Lucic for the only goal of the game midway through the second-half as The Bees became only the third visiting side to win at Ashton Gate this season.

Speaking to Bees Player after the game, Maxime said: “It is not the greatest goal that I have ever scored but it was an important one because it got us the three points. I am really happy but it was a goal for the whole team. We had a couple of difficult games recently so it was important to keep up the confidence from last Saturday. We were solid defensively and kept a clean sheet. We had three or four games where we conceded a lot of goals so it was good to keep a clean sheet away and to bring back the three points.”

Despite a run of four successive defeats before Saturday’s 2-1 win over Burton Albion, Maxime revealed confidence around the group never dropped during that run of losses. Now, having won back to back games, The Bees right-back said it is important that the group continue to work hard to ensure they keep picking up the wins.

“We have come through a hard period so we needed to pick up points,” said Maxime. “The mood is really good in the dressing room. We never lost confidence but after losing four in a row that wasn’t easy. We stayed together and together we got the points. We still have a lot of games to come and we have to keep our heads down. We are happy now because we have won twice in a row but we have to keep going if we want to have a good season.”

The Bees were backed by nearly 600 visiting fans at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night. Maxime thanked the fans for their support, especially given the recent run, and dedicated the victory to those travelling supporters.

“I would like to thank the supporters,” said Maxime. “It is easier to support a team when they are winning but they supported us during the hard period that we have been through. I would like to thank them for the support they gave us when it was difficult for us. That really helped us and today we brought the three points for them.”
