Young fans get chance to meet heroes at Community Sports Trust event
More than 60 young Bees fans got their Christmas Holidays off to a great start this afternoon at the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s Meet the Players day in partnership with + Sport Move and Learn. The event, now in its fourth year, was held in the Indoor Dome at Uxbridge High School with participants able to enjoy an afternoon of sport in the run up to Christmas.
After training sessions run by the Trust’s Coaching staff, all the Brentford first-team squad arrived to play in, coach, and referee the small sided football and dodgeball games after lunch. There was then a chance for the youngsters, aged between six and 12, to get photographs and autographs from the players, Buzz Bee, and Buzzette. The players then returned to the indoor dome to hand out the player of the day awards across the age groups before the youngsters left, all of them with a smile on their face.
Lee Doyle, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust Chief Executive, said: “It is fantastic. If you look round it is a sea of red and white, which we love. It has been a great turnout by the players. The way that they have got involved means an awful lot to the youngsters. As a club we are all joined up as part of the wider community. We run over 6,000 sessions each year now so when the players get involved directly it means something to them but it also means something to the participants as well.”
Nico Yennaris: “It’s been fun interacting with the kids. They have got to play with the first-team, some of whom I’m sure they idolise, and they have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is nice that the whole team is together and that we have all been able to do something for the kids here.”
