Another England call for Ian Carlo Poveda

Brentford youngster in England side for Under-16 tournament

Brentford teenager Ian Carlo Poveda has been called-up to the England Under-16 squad for a forthcoming tournament. The 15-year-old will be with the national side for a week-long competition next month. He is part of an 18-man squad named for the Tournoi International, held in Val de Marne, France at the end of October.

Ian Carlo will link up with the squad on Saturday 24 October and fly to France. England will play Japan, on October 27, the Netherlands, on October 29, and France, on November 1, in the tournament, being held just outside Paris.

Ian Carlo has been part of the England Under-16 group for the past few months. He attended a training camp in July and did enough to earn a place in the 20-man squad for two friendlies against the United States of America last month. The teenager played in both friendlies and became the first Brentford Academy player to get an England cap in many years.

Other Academy players have also had recent international recognition. Youth Team attacker Josh Bohui is on standby for the England Under-17 squad and his team mate Julius Fenn-Evans is on standby for the Wales Under-17 squad. England and Wales play UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers next month.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “For Ian Carlo to be called up again after playing in the two friendlies last month is fantastic news for him, the Academy and the Club. That was a larger squad that has been reduced so Ian Carlo clearly made an impact. More importantly, he also represented the Club in the right manner.

“Ian Carlo has had a good start to the season and is meeting the challenges being placed in front of him. There will be more to come and this tournament is another one. I am sure he will show his best form.

“I would also like to congratulate Josh and Julius for their standby call-ups. Both are on the verge of their respective international squads and if they continue to perform well for Brentford will get more chances I am sure.”

Ian Carlo is still part of the Under-16 squad but has played for Brentford at Under-18 and Under-21 level. He has made five Youth Team appearances this season and scored two goals. He also played for the Development Squad against Birmingham City last month.

Josh and Julius are both part of Brentford’s Youth Team. They have played six and five games at Under-18 level for The Bees this season respectively. Josh has scored three times and Julius once. Both have also played for Brentford’s Development Squad this term.
