Development Squad trio sign new deals.
A trio of young Brentford players have signed new contracts. James Ferry, Tom Field and Zain Westbrooke have signed one-year extensions to remain as part of the Club’s Development Squad until the end of June 2017. All three signed first professional contracts in the summer after coming through the Club’s Academy and have been part of the successful Under-21 team at Griffin Park this term.
Midfield player James, 18, has captained Brentford’s Development Squad this season, playing 12 times in the Under-21 Professional Development League and Premier League Cup, scoring once. Left back Tom, 18, has played 11 Under-21 games this season and also started for a Brentford XI featuring a host of First Team players in a recent behind closed doors match against a strong AFC Bournemouth side. Zain – who turned 19 last month – has played in 12 Under-21 games this term, starting six and scoring once, before picking up an injury that has him out of action for the time being. The central midfield player – who has a knack for scoring spectacular long-range goals – also scored twice for the Development Squad in eight appearances last season before turning professional in the summer.
Rob Rowan, Brentford FC Head of Football Operations, said: “I’m pleased that we’ve agreed to extend the boys’ contracts. They’ve now got an additional 12 months to take advantage of the resources they have available to them at the club whether it be staff or facilities. All three have acted very professionally since they joined the Development Squad and it’s very important they maintain those high standards."
Kevin O’Connor, Development Squad Head Coach, added: “This is just reward for James, Tom and Zain for their hard work, effort and performance over the past five months, their first as professionals. This is a great opportunity for them and they can develop and mature for another year with us.”
