Under-21 boss happy with performance in Premier League Cup victory.
Kevin O’Connor gave his post-match reaction to the 2-1 win against Reading at Adams Park, which puts his side through to the last 16 of the U21 Premier League Cup.
“Reading are a strong team and we’d knew it would be a tough game today,” said Kevin. “I was really happy with the first half; that’s the best we’ve played for a while, really positive. I felt that we controlled the game in many aspects and did exactly what I asked of them, got the goal and it was really comfortable.
“Credit to Reading, they came out and showed how good they are second half. We got the second goal on the break and just about held on.”
The first half talking point was the withdrawal on 13 minutes of midfielder Lewis Macleod who was replaced by Josh Laurent.
“It was just precautionary really,” said Kevin. “He said he felt a tiny twinge; we’re not taking any chances with him, so we took him off.”
Brentford withstood some heavy Reading pressure and ensured the victory with a superb second half goalkeeping performance from Nik Tzanev and scored a second goal courtesy of Herson Rodrigues Alves.
“They went on the front foot second half, “said Kevin “Nik’s made some good saves and it’s good for him as he hasn’t played much for us and that will give him the confidence to kick on now.”
