Teenager defender heads out for a month
Brentford Development Squad defender Lionel Stone has joined Woking on loan.
The 19-year-old linked up with the Surrey side yesterday, completing the move last night, and will remain with them until April 19.
He will be available for their Vanarama Conference match against Forest Green Rovers today, Saturday March 21, and the six that follow.
Woking are currently eighth in the table, on the edge of the promotion Play-Off race.
Lionel completed his two-year scholarship at the end of the 2013/14 season and was offered a one-year professional deal.
The teenager, who has caps for Scotland at Under-17 level, has primarily played in the centre of defence over the past few years, having started out as a centre forward.
He was part of the Brentford Team that reached the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round in 2011/12 when he was in the Under-16 squad.
He has suffered with injury over the past two seasons but played six Youth Team games in 2013/14, scoring twice, and six games for the Development Squad.
This season Lionel has five Under-21 Professional Development League Two games for the Under-21 side.
Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “Lionel is at the stage of his career where he needs to be playing First Team football on Saturday afternoons.
“That is a big step for any player and it is time for Lionel to make that.
“In his time with us he has shown he has the potential to be a good ball-playing central defender.
“He has to go out to play non-league football and show he can do it at that level.
“We were pleased we could get Lionel in to a good club at a good level and at a vital stage of the season.
“I am sure he will do well.”
