French defender completes Brentford move

25 June 2015

Yoann Barbet joins The Bees

Brentford have signed French central defender Yoann Barbet from Chamois Niortais for an undisclosed fee.

The move for the 22-year-old has been finalised, subject to international clearance, and he has signed a four-year contract.

Yoann came through the youth ranks at Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux and spent seven years at the South West France club, close to where he grew up.

He played for Bordeaux’s reserve side – Bordeaux B – for three seasons and made 75 appearances in the fourth tier of French football.

Yoann – who has represented France at Under-18 level – moved to Chamois Niortais last summer.

He played 33 games in Ligue Deux, the French second division, last season.

Phil Giles, Brentford FC Co-Director of Football, said: "I would like to extend a warm welcome to Yoann as he joins us at Brentford.

“Yoann had a great season at Niort and is a player who we feel is capable of playing at a high level in this country too.

“We look forward to working with Yoann as he joins us for pre-season."

Marinus Dijkhuizen, Brentford FC Head Coach, added: "One of my first tasks as Head Coach was to review some of the players that the recruitment team had been tracking last season.

“Yoann really caught the eye and after discussions we decided to make his signing one of our priorities.

“I'm very happy that he has chosen to come to Brentford and I look forward to working with him."
