Marinus Dijkhuizen seeks improvement after Luton loss

Head Coach on pre-season defeat to Luton Town.

Brentford Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen gave his verdict on the 2-1 defeat at Luton Town, the first public pre-season friendly defeat since his appointment in the summer.

Striker Philipp Hofmann levelled Wilkinson’s opener but Calvin Zola’s 78th minute goal sealed victory for The Hatters.

“It’s always disappointing to lose, especially to a club that plays a lot lower than you,” said Marinus. “Especially the first half, I was not satisfied. We were careless on the ball, we had a lot of difficulty with long balls and the physical power from Luton.

“The first half was not good, but the second half was much better, created some big chances to win. I’m not happy to so lose but it’s not so important now.”

Midfielder Jonathan Douglas was absent again for the matchday squad, with Marinus revealing that his future lay away from Griffin Park.

“He’s not part of the squad,” said Marinus. “He’s training separately. We decided with Rasmus [Ankersen] and Phil [Giles] that it’s better to move on, for his future, and for Brentford.”

On being probed about new signings, the Head Coach responded that his squad had good technical levels all over the pitch.

“We have a lot of quality players,” said Marinus. “And we’ve seen some good things tonight, especially in the second half. Saturday I saw a lot of good things so I think we’ve got a lot of quality in the squad.”
