Brentford Development Squad central defender Alfie Mawson to stay at Sky Bet League Two Wycombe Wanderers on loan until end of 2014/15Brentford Development Squad central defender Alfie Mawson has extended his loan at Sky Bet League Two Wycombe Wanderers for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old joined the Buckinghamshire side before the start of the 2014/15 campaign.
Initially a short term deal, Alfie will now complete the season with The Chairboys.
Alfie has established himself at the heart of the Wycombe defence, playing 22 of their 23 League Two games.
He has generally played alongside Aaron Pierre – who partnered Alfie in the centre of defence at Under-21 level and joined Wanderers on a permanent basis in the summer after a successful loan deal.
Alfie has helped Wycombe in to the promotion race and they sit second in League Two at the halfway point of the season.
Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “Wycombe were very keen to keep Alfie for the season.
“He has had a very positive impact and proved himself at a top League Two team.
“Wycombe are having a very good season and Alfie has played his part in that, resuming his partnership with Aaron Pierre that served us so well.
“He has also represented Brentford FC well off the pitch, which is important.
“We were very happy for him to stay and continue to get Football League experience.
“Wycombe are pushing for promotion and for any player to be involved in a season like that will be great for their development.
“Alfie has learnt a lot so far and will, I am sure, continue to do so.
“Our staff have been to watch him this season and have seen him develop; we believe another half season at Wycombe will enable him to further improve.”
Alfie signed his second professional contract – a one-year deal – in the close season.
He had previously signed a two-year Development Squad contract in the summer of 2012 after completing his scholarship.
In an injury-hit 2012/13 season, Alfie played 11 games for The Bees in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South.
Alfie played 12 Under-21 league games in 2013/14, scoring three times, and made his First Team debut in the Capital One Cup defeat against Derby County.
